The Open Letter of Russian Lutheran Church to All Lutherans on the situation in Ukraine

Dear brothers and sisters!

Any war is a trouble for the person, his family, relatives and friends. Doubly is a trouble, if it is necessary to be at war with the neighbour, whom you visited yesterday, sat with him at one table.

Today, in connection with tragical events in the Southeast of Ukraine we with special force start to realise the words of Jesus Christ: «Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword»

(Matthew 26:52)

Everyone who participate in this conflict, bear a danger of mutual destruction from a sword. Our people and the countries are before terrible threat!

The evangelical Lutheran church of Augsburg Confession in Russia addresses to coreligionists in Europe, Russia, to Ukraine and all over the world with an appeal to join immediately with a prayer for the peace and the consent in Ukraine, for restoration of diplomatic, economic and universal communications on all space of Eurasia from Atlantic to Pacific ocean.

We urge to include the prayer for the peace in the general church prayer during divine services from Ash Wednesday 18 th February 2015 to the full resolution of conflict.

We suggested to uplift a special prayer for mutual elimination of distrust between the countries of Europe and Russia, for the prompt revival of the open, peaceful and mutually advantageous relations.

Jesus Christ says: « Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

19. Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.». (Matf. 18:18-19).

We should bind this war! And we should demand from politicians of the immediate termination of a confrontation and the beginning of negotiating process. A bad peace is better than any war!

We should remember that mutual political and economic isolation never and anywhere did not lead the countries to a establishment of peace, but sooner or later it will bring to even big manifestations of violence and aggression.

Wars divide people and the nations, and love of Christ gives peace, «… For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them …» (Luke 9:56).

We urge all coreligionists to join in prayers with church of the Russian Lutherans ELC AC and initiate the prompt carrying out international conference on termination of the war in Ukraine.
